Fitness Certification Review
What are the washout rates during special forces training?
I have talked with my recruiter several times, and, pending a review from my medical evaluation, I will be given a chance to go through the Special Forces training. I understand that the 18X option is most likely put into place to give the ARMY higher enlistment rates (washouts revert to secondary MOS). I am just curious and would like to see some numbers. Specifically, the rates for 18X making it to their desired MOS (18D Medical Sergeant myself). I understand the rates are low, but I scored 300, the maximum, on my fitness evaluation and aced the ASVAB. I have my bachelors in Biomedical Science and would really like to pursue this avenue for securing my PA (you can take Physician’s Assistant certification exam after discharge from 18D MOS). Thanks for your in depth answers in advance.
The SF Assessment School has a total wash-out rate of 75-80%. Of that, about half are voluntary withdrawals – they couldn’t take it (either physically or mentally) and “rang out” to leave the training. The rest are forced out by failing tests or failing to make the final selection.
EVERYONE has a high PT test – so just having a 300 won’t really matter. Having a degree won’t matter either, it just means that you were able to pass a couple of tests and wear a silly hat (with a tassle!). What the SFAS tests is drive, problem solving, ability to function under OMFG harsh conditions with no sleep, and teamwork. They don’t want or need solo performers there – they need people that can work as a team member – and a 300 and a BS don’t mean that you can do that.
